The farmers were happy because there was no scarcity of water in canals and water-bodies for retting jute plants. But, excessive rainfall water logged the jute fields and hampered the smooth growth of jute plants. With available water to rot jute plants, farmers did not resort to use of Ribbon Retting process to rot water. But, while reaping and processing jute, farmers are facing shortages of farm labourers.Jute farmers are hiring farm hands at double the rate of the previous year. Moreover, this year, raw processed jute is being sold at less than Tk. 200 to Tk. 300 per maund than that of last year. As a result, farmers have become disappointed.
